No Sugar, No Flour Diet Foods

Every diet on the planet warns of "empty calories," and they are advised against for good reason: they pack in the calories and fail to provide any nutritional benefit. And the no-sugar, no-flour diet is an exception. Avoiding sugars and flour are sure-fire ways to lose weight by resisting empty calories, refined flour and deep-fried cooking methods.

What Does "Empty Calorie"' Mean?

Empty calories are calories made up generally of sugar, which fail to offer any nutritional benefit. Candy, soda and artificial sweeteners (think high fructose corn syrup) are the easiest to identify.

Can I Eat Fruit?

Fruit contains sugar, yes, but does not contain empty calories because natural fruit provides daily values of fiber your body needs to maintain regularity. Many fruits are considered "negative calorie foods," meaning they contain less calories than a human body burns in the digestion of these foods. Celery and apples are two widely known negative calorie foods, and should definitely be eaten in every healthy diet because they promote a healthy metabolism. Fruit juice, unfortunately, does not offer the fiber of natural fruit and almost always has added sources of sugar (here's where that fructose comes in). Make sure to eat real, natural fruit.

Can I Drink Alcohol?

Nope. It's that simple. Alcohol ranges generally between 100 to 150 calories per serving of liquor or beer respectively. Without exception, all of those calories are from sugar. So for that reason, avoiding alcohol is essential.

Fried Foods

Fried foods aren't recommended for any weight loss program. Chips and those sorts of snack foods should be replaced with healthy servings of nuts, fruits or vegetables. It's totally alright to eat potatoes---just bake them instead of frying them. Baked chicken? No problem. But avoid french-fries, chips, chicken strips, corn dogs and other such fried foods.

Refined Flour

Eat brown rice, or quinoa for substance, but skip bread and pasta. Anything made of flour, is a no-go. And even brown rice or quinoa (two excellent sources of fiber and protein) should be used restrictively.
